Subtractive Drawings

Students in both 4th and 7th hour drawing classes have been hard at work on their subtractive drawings. They started by covering the paper with a coat of loose charcoal, then began drawing with their erasers and looked for highlights and shadows. Students chose their own subject matter for this assignment. So far, I've been really impressed with the drawings. Keep up the great work, everyone!

Basic Shape Value Drawings

A couple of really nice shape value drawings from Intro to Art class. For this assignment, students created a composition of at least 15 overlapping shapes and shaded them using different shading techniques (smooth, hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling).

Plastercraft masks

Adaptive art students made these awesome plaster craft faces. After making the plaster faces, students drew upon their knowledge of color theory and mixed primary colors to paint them. Embellishments such as beads, feathers, glitter, and googly eyes were a finishing touch.

Model Magic Color Wheels

Students in adaptive art class mixed model magic to make their own color wheels. Students began with primary colors and by mixing red, yellow, and blue, they learned how to create secondary colors (orange, green, and violet). The model magic color wheels will air dry to become firm and lightweight and can be used as a reference for color mixing.

Contour Drawings

Students in 4th and 7th Hour Drawing class did some very nice contour drawings of plants and instruments. Many found the contour process to be frustrating but helpful overall to developing observational skill.
